That would not work because reflect melee isn't being used on you, its being used on the damage. At least that is my understanding.

This is a question on sending letters. If a character sends a letter to another character, do we need to consult Chris or inform him of it or can we assume the letter gets where it's going without issue?

In regards to reflect melee- the issue is actually more detailed than that. It works more like a spell turning shield. You can't avoid that because its just a passive ability. Reflect Melee cannot be avoided because it isn't targeting you, it's just informing you that the attack is being bounced like spell turning shield. You WOULD be able to Avoid the modifiers on the attack (like Slay etc) except that you just made them, which negates your ability to respond. This rule comes from the Fireball/ Dispell magi. Rule. If I fireball you, and you Dispell my fireball, I can not Dispell your Dispell (though someone else can), I have used up my one action in the stack by casting fireball. So if you attack me with slay, I could reflect melee and you can't avoid because you just took an action. If you used no modifiers like hack or slay you would then be eligible for an action in response to the reflect, except that you can't avoid raw damage, which is the other reason you can't avoid it. So you could use Mobile brace to protect yourself, but few other things will cover you. Regarding letters. I need to know where they are sent and to who and when. Feel free to send them to the person but you must also send me a copy. If you don't want to do this, then you need to give the character and actual hard copy from your character by hand. There is no mail service in Roekron, it is all done by messenger.

In Junior League, if you avoid a slay, do you still take a damage?

No- you don't take a damage because it would be moot then, you would still be down and that's not what avoid is for, it's to stay up.

Historian question, does researching a question take a certain amount of time? Or is there some other limitation on how often or what one can historian?

Yes, historian takes usually a week ( just like crafting does). But sometimes if you have a library it can be faster. It is also limited by the GM in that if the GM has time you may get more than one thing researched but usually one a week is average.

Is it known what would happen if one were to oracle a question that has no answer because the question is false or based on false information? An example would be something like "why are cats a type if fish?" Of course cats aren't fish but if the oracler thought (or at least theorized) that they were...

It is assumed that when people ask questions that are false they receive images that relate to their question and usually try to she'd light on the fact that the person is wrong. Consider if someone Oracled "what is the vampire doing under the city" but the being they believe is a vampire is in fact not a vampire. Deities are not computers but entities and it is presumed they understand the intention of an oracle much like a spell has an intention. This this would be akin to a spell that has an intention that is off. The results will be virtually useless and may try to help the faster realize their error, or they may assume that your after information about "the thing you believe is a vampire" and thus give it to you. Think google suggestions "did you mean 'evil wizard?' Under the city?" but in deity language. Many players have tried to play the true or false game. With oracle and paid for their assumptions. They ask things like "Why is the evil dragon killing people" and when they receive an answer they go "Aha! So the dragon IS evil!" Not realizing that oracle doesn't work that way. It's about intention, words, connection, need, like elder sorcery.

Question about the pacifism update. Does the vows of pacifism bonus work with blessings? Or just the normal version?

Yes- the vow of pacifism extends your pacifism one encounter longer than usual per use.

What about Martial Masters? They're kind of completely useless now(not to say they weren't already with the whole situation and what not) ... if they don't have pacifism, then how do they function?

they do have pacifism, and when they can't spend the mana, they just deal

But even with pacifism since ward is now a standard skill pacifism is going to be so much more useless...

(Not sure where to post this, but I'll put it here. Feel free to move it if it makes more sense elsewhere.)
I agree with Scott. It isn't that Ward is easy to get (still a guildmaster life spell. Though it could be made into an item, so), but the fact is that by introducing ward it severely limits the effectiveness of other skills (unbreachability, magic resistance, etc.). To my understanding, ward was mainly introduced as a counter to Pacifism, especially given all the awesome combinations with Pacifism that came up this year (*coughzaneandclaracough*). But with the new impediment on pacifism (making it *extremely* limited and takes mana away from the rest of their spells) and the addition of ward, that entire style of play is almost (as I see it) useless now. Characters and NPCs (the *entire* Sorikonian way of life) have been made around the pacifism mechanic. And the way I see it, the dual whammy of the pacifism cutbacks and the ward addition (which will have a ripple effect into other skills) might just be a little too much.
And also, back to the countering pacifisms thing. They can be knocked out, and unless in the rare cases where they are wearing a helm (i.e. Clara) or have adrenaline then they cannot avoid it. Elder Sorcery still effects them (though that is higher level). Natural damage (i.e. dropping or drowning them) drops them easily. Knockback can achieve this easily with just some strategy. Mana draining also works, though that is more specifically with undead. And the addition of ward, though a simple solution, will have a broader impact on other resistance skills that *are* balanced.
Personally, I'd be for getting rid of ward and putting some sort of different price on Pacifism that doesn't so completely remove them as a play style. Some thoughts:
-Pacifism would only cover physical damage from a weapon; spells and natural damage would damage as normal.
-1 mana ritual to activate, stay's active the whole day. That way, there would be a price associated with it and it wouldn't be quite as cheap but there is still mana for the mage to use for other spells (and therefore the style is supported).
-Finally, and this is a more "out there" idea and would require more debate, but you could just do without pacifism in Junior League (where the main problem with it is). We played for at least three (four?) years until Pacifism even became a standard spell- there were people that made the elder sorcery, and it was fairly easy to make, but there was no standard slot for it. Especially given that next year (presumably) we will are moving out of the Sorikonian region it might be a good time to implement a change like that as the number of characters that would be affected by the change would be smaller and it would make sense with the shift in location. This could be one of the simplest solutions, as you get rid of the cause (pacifism as a whole and it's effects in Junior League) then the problem of how to make it more fair while keeping the rest of the game balanced (i.e. the issue with ward) disappears as well.
Just my two cents.
