The Teriok Times was created in the year 16,112 by myself, Rivern Kaisa, then an enterprising 14-year-old Cobben prodigy. I created The Teriok Times to bring a new source of information to Teriok that didn't rely on sometimes biased government reporting. My goals for this newspaper are to bring information, spread education and a love of reading, and connect and bring together Teriok as a whole. As a reporter, I feel it is of the utmost importance to bring information into the public view, however, as an adventurer, I can also appreciate how useful some of this information could be to the enemies of the Nations of Teriok. Because of this, The Teriok Times will not be reporting on any planned or ongoing military operations of the nations of the old alliance unless they directly harm or plan to harm civilians or are in conflict with treaties signed and ratified by the Nations of Teriok.
As of the year 16,139, The Teriok Times has a printing office in Calarinde, Sandend, Montreb, Shal City, and Old Market. Smaller field offices are currently being planned for Cliffwatch, Welandes, Halfhem, and Galengloom. The Teriok Times is a daily newspaper circulated throughout Teriok from its offices in the large cities.
Currently, The Teriok Times is seeking dedicated reporters who will bring stories to light and or are looking to staff field offices. Please contact the office of Lord Rivern Kaisa in Calarinde for details.
I will write articles for this forum and post them as often as I can. I have the very first publication written in 16,112, and a publication following several months later as the first articles of the paper here.

The Teriok Times: Very First Edition July 16,112
Demon Escapes Old Market Forces
Old Market sources confirmed Friday that the demon some are calling Fenrir escaped a combined force of adventurers and Grittish troops. The demon entered the battlefield wielding an “enormous” Morganti Daikatana which was later captured.“The demon stormed up out of the ocean and just devoured it,” one shocked soldier said. “We had, it was just a matter of time. With our elite troops on the field, it didn’t know what hit it until the beast came.” The soldiers were, of course, referring to the first demon that attacked the shores of Old Market Thursday night. There have been a string or demon sightings several nights in a row as they stormed south towards the entrance to the inner sea. There was as of yet no confirmed count of the number of demons heading towards Old Market as the forces assembled. The first wave of attackers waded out of the surf and onto the beach as the troops charged forwards into the fray. They were met with shambling lamprey mouthed zombies seeking to spread their extremely painful poison. As the troops were engaging the first wave of zombies, the demon (Loki) “came out of nowhere” and attacked one of the elite samurais that had specially prepared to kill it. The battle raged for some minutes while the samurai feverishly disarmed the demon while avoiding its Morganti blade. The demon went down to a huge push from soldiers and adventurers combined and was then stabbed multiple times by a knight wielding the demon’s successfully disarmed Morganti di katana. It was reported that just at this moment the second demon burst from the shallow waves. At this point “all hells broke loose” one soldier said of the battle. Many forces seeing the second demon “Fenrir” charging onto the battlefield with a second Morganti weapon wilted in terror. In the scramble, a nature mage named Sjilrick made a split second decision. Fearing that “Loki” would regain its weapon and wreak havoc he swiftly unforged the Morganti weapon in front of several hundred stunned witnesses. At this moment “Fenrir” bashed through the forces surrounding “Loki” and devoured the demon. The forces rallied for a second assault as the last of “Loki” disappeared down “Fenrir’s” throat. A Morganti wraith rose out of the unforged dust of the giant Daikatana and started attacking anything and everything in sight including the now much larger “Fenrir.” The elite troops of Old Market started gaining ground as the Wraith began pushing back the enlarged demon and forces swarmed towards both targets. The wraith was dispatched quickly as forces swarmed towards “Fenrir.” With the wraith gone the soldiers went after the demon with a vengeance. It was disarmed quickly and forces began dealing a slew of holy, magic and Morganti attacks as the demon continued to retreat. According to soldiers on the field who were later interviewed “Fenrir” took at least four direct stabs with its own Morganti Daikatana along with numerous other hits and attacks from other forces. The night was not without losses for the troops of Old Market as many fell in the first wave of “shambler like zombies” when they misjudged the ferocity of their attacks. Others fell to “Loki” and “Fenrir” throughout the night as Morganti damage was traded between sides. “Fenrir” was cornered at the beachfront as the battle was drawing to a close but just as soldiers, “thought they had it” “Fenrir” jumped into the inner sea dove downwards and swam towards the north. “Overall we can count this as a victory, however, the demon is still free to wreak havoc in other parts of Teriok and that is unacceptable,” said one forces commander. Dagdeoth’s Mysterious Advance
Dagdeoth troops were pushed back 30 miles from the inner sea this week with the beginning of their fall stemming from the sacking of Demonport on Tuesday morning. Adventurers from Skillhaven and Telepelec, along with Skillhaven and Welandis forces took Demonport and burned most of the port city to the ground. Following this victory, the combined forces continued to push northwards along the Shosse* towards the borders of Telepelec territory. Despite this apparent victory in the war against our northern foe, Dagdeoth has been seizing more and more land on both sides of the inner sea. According to sources in the military Dagdeoth currently, holds the Kai sands on the eastern side and a large area just above Shal City on the western side. This reporter cannot confirm how these troops have appeared in large enough numbers to hold these areas without the nations of the inner sea noticing. There are several suspected theories but at this time these are purely and simply speculation. The first theory goes thus: Kai has not done anything to combat this dagdeoth incursion that we know of. Some speculate that Kai is being paid off by dagdeoth to look the other or are even collaborating with our northern neighbor. This could mean serious problems for the rest of Teriok these theorists say, citing the evidence of dagdeoth’s continued troop buildup and the lack of coordinated efforts to oppose them at this current point. Theory two speculates that Dagdeoth is using the disabled overlay in some capacity. Some are calling it their “door’s”. This could explain how they are able to move so many troops over so much land area without our troops noticing. This is also a very troubling speculation because it could mean that Dagdeoth could strike at the hearts of our cities taking us completely by surprise. It is this reporter's feeling that these dagdeoth encampments must be investigated fully and the methods of transportation and or subterfuge must be discovered at all costs
Arinn Cron Aid
Arinn Cron Aid is a Calarinde based charity organization that has been gathering support and funds to help those affected by famine and hardship in the war-torn areas of Teriok. They have just bought a building in Sandend that will be opened as an orphanage in the coming weeks for those children displaced by the recent war in Grittin. Arinn Cron Aid has caught unwanted scrutiny from some as there are alleged claims that they are using their influence and good name to gather intelligence and covertly operate for the Skillhaven government inside other countries. These claims have no basis in fact that this reporter has discovered so far. Whatever claims made against Arin Cron Aid, this reporter has witnessed their work for war-torn people first hand and firmly states that they are improving Teriok for the better.
No Mainland for Skillhaven
“Nore Romas and Pearless stand firmly opposed to Skillhaven’s expansionist goals,” a spokesperson for the countries said last Wednesday. Rumor has it that Grittin and Skillhaven had completed an agreement that would sign over certain Grittish lands into Skillhaven control for an undisclosed period. Under this rumored agreement, Old Market and the surrounding woodlands, land immediately surrounding the great tree of Curuvaros, and the gates to the inner sea were all up for discussion and inclusion. Pearless and Nore Romas adamantly opposed the deal and threatened anything up to and including open warfare if Skillhaven gained land in Grittin. The final deal that was shaken on by the nations involved included free building materials from the Unseelie wood and lowered and opened tariffs and taxes for ships passing through the tunnels between the inner sea and the ocean. Separate parts of the same negotiations brought Oni peacekeepers to Grittin to reinforce its military and town watches, and for Skillhaven to officially receive the stone's throw isles.
Elder Sorcery Down
Elder sorcery is now completely gone in most of Teriok with many parts seeing magic item malfunctions on account of this loss of magic. Dragon summit has kept the use of some very basic elder sorcery and the elder magic imbued into special abilities granted by items. A coalition of mages from the nations of Teriok, dragon summit and independent counselors including priests of Mayan have gathered at the great tree of Curavaros to search for answers to the waning of magic. There is currently no word on the matter of elder sorcery directly, however, many adventurers have been quoted in saying that the tree has “portals to other realms.” Adventurers reportedly discovered a portal to the fey wild in the depths of the nature tower of the former wizard palace inside the tree. Others claim that there is a portal to the underworld and that some have even seen gods and angels but these claims are so far unsubstantiated.

The Teriok Times: A September edition from 16,112
THE MOUTH IS DEAD!!
Crowds of People rejoice in the streets of cities all over Teriok today as the incredible news that the Mouth Demon, who was making such alarming advances towards the Great Tree, has been slain. The Mouth was attacked by a force of Adventurers and Soldiers from Grittin and Skillhaven as it advanced towards the Tree from the Inner Sea near Old Market. The forces of Skillhaven and Grittin bravely marched into the path of the Mouth to oppose the demons almost unchecked advancement towards Curavaros. The first wave to approach the troops were the pain lamprey zombies now traced to the demon. As the main force advanced a sea of zombies surrounded the adventurers and troops as they begin forging ahead towards the swath of destruction that was the demon. According to witnesses, The Mouth was being escorted by a haunt like creature with giant wings. As The Mouth bore down in the main force its path of destruction was laid bare behind it. It had eaten every tree and cleared a swath of land all the way to the inner sea. After hours of battling towards the mouth through the zombie hoards, the adventurers finally engaged The Mouth. As the group charged forward the haunt and the Mouth moved together to attack the party. Moving and circling as one The Mouth and The Haunt pursued the adventurers in a rushing dance of combat that abruptly ended with an adventurer being snagged and eaten like a fly caught by the tongue of a chameleon. The adventurers and Troops scattered in shock as their companion disappeared completely into the giant mouth. The Battle raged on with many rebirths and much mana being spent to bring the mighty demon and haunt down. In the end, they were both exercised with their true names, banishing them back to their vile plane. The Times extends deepest sympathies to everyone who lost loved ones in this fight!
The Great Tree of Curavaros
Over the past century, the great tree of Curavaros has sprung from the once mighty wizard palace outside Sandend. The great tree had begun acting strangely over this past year and so with magic failing and great jungles, swamps, and motes of lava rising around the tree adventurers began exploring inside. This reporter was lucky enough to go on one such mission into the heart of the tree. In our search for the restoration of magic, we came to know the planeswalker Ragna who bore a message from the gods. Ragna led us to a quest for an ancient prophecy disk split into many pieces and held by different gods. We entered the Great Tree through a portal created by a priest of Mayan bypassing the treacherous jungles, flaming lava moat and sucking swamp outside. Inside the Great Tree, there was discovered a portal to the god realm, a place of mystical beings of great power and divine magic. There were rumors of this portal for several months before my group entered it, and although I cannot say for sure, I believe that the portal stayed stable for the majority of that time. The Magical power needed to hold a portal open to the god realm is immense, and that is not the only portal that the Great Tree was holding open. In the nature tower, there was a door into the Fae Realm in the nature tower of the wizard palace now inside the Tree. Several Adventurers also stated that there was a door to the underworld although this is as of yet unconfirmed. The Great Tree of Curavaros is seen by many to be the Yggdrasil of the Norse and it is then even more troubling that the Mouth Demon, now dead, rushed with such fervor toward it. It is theorized that if the demon destroyed the tree it could mean an end to magic or even send the connection with the goldy realm into flux. This could have banished the gods from being close or connected to the world rendering divine magic much weaker if existent at all. In any case, the great tree is safe for the moment. The riddles and haunts of the tree itself have yet to be solved but there is always time for adventurers to do what they do best. The wizard palace still stands, if inside the tree, and there is hope for the future.
The Trials of Grittin
This last June, the future of Grittin shone brightly as a beacon of hope and change in Teriok. The months-long war with Skillhaven was at an end as Charlie Charleston V executed a successful coup against the Gritish Monarchy. In a single day, Charleston captured the central palace of Grittin Keep and surrounding lands. In the ensuing days, Charleston’s Republic army marched to victory in Sandend and onwards to final victory at the great tree of Curavaros where King Trueblood was finally captured. Charlie says “ Our goal is for a Senate of people which will together have control of the government. To lead the Senate there will be two people appointed as councilors.” The Gritish senate has gained determined support from many in Grittin. “I think it’d be a great thing. I’m really looking forward to it. The monarchy, you know, was kinda meh. The Republic, you know, has good ideals, a great constitution, and a great leader. Overall the Republic, lookin good, lookin good, looking strong.” a member of The Cool Beans named Veries said when interviewed. “The rebel cells hates elves, but we like elves, we like elves,” Veries said. “My best friend is an elf,” another member of The Coolbeans said. “Yes, there have been some resistance cells. We are currently using the Usar guard to quell the unrest, although we don’t wish to slaughter them all,” Charlie says. There are some in Grittin and Shaloba who want the new Republic to take more drastic security measures. Auric, a Shal ambassador was one of the adamant supporters of more forceful actions taken to instill peace. Some of the demands and concerns were assuaged when the gritish government accepted a proposal of aid from Oni. The proposal spearheaded jointly by Charlie Charleston and Indraneel Kharanshu from Oni offered Oni troops to supplement Gritish forces to help with peacekeeping. “The Gritish government is making progress, however, there have been some setbacks,” a gritish peacekeeper said when asked about the continuing riots and impediments to peace. “Some of our people don’t recognize the Oni as peacekeepers, even say they are here to take over the country. Several Oni peacekeepers have been murdered, and there have been many confrontations.” Despite the conflicts, Charleston says he’s hopeful that change will come quickly. One of the “goals” he mentioned for Grittin in the very near future is to achieve population-wide literacy. The new Gritish government is still waiting for its sea legs, but if the happiness of the Gritish people and the integrity of their economy continue to grow the country could be heading down a golden road to prosperity.
Dagdeoths Fall
The Bone Pavilions have fallen on the southern shores of the inner sea. With the help of Charlie Charleston the Vth, Junior the leader of the Cool Beans the Bone Pavilions were exploded with magical weapons forged in the Great Tree. This reporter has not been able to find any more details on these items that exploded the Bone Pavilions. When asked a high ranking official had this to say, “Rest assured that they are very powerful and that Teriok will be able to produce more if needed in the future.” No matter the make of the weapons involved, the Bone Pavilions destruction is a major achievement towards pushing Dagdeoth out of Teriok for good. There is talk of an offensive against dagdeoth in Skillhaven and Telepelec seems to be pushing them further and further towards their old borders. The north is opening up once again as Dagdeoth is pushed out, making room for all sorts of possibilities.
Tavern of the month: The Cool Beans
As you step into The Cool Beans the first thing that draws your eye is the ornately carved and polished bar made from the finest Unseelie Oak. The bar is adorned with images of past battles and great adventurers, portraying the battle of the mouth, The battle of the blue mountains, and the siege of Grittin Keep among many others. The atmosphere is inviting, with the smells of Mayan spice, Tortilla, and rich ales wafting from the bar and kitchen. Sidney Barnett is a fixture behind the bar of The Cool Beans, born and raised in Calarinde on Skillhaven Barnett has seen many taverns come and go. “I know this place was going to make it, I can feel it in my bones,” Sidney said when asked about the taverns prospects. Being in the more central city of Calarinde has its advantages, but the cheap real estate isn’t one of them. The Cool Beans was founded by a group of adventurers who share its name. They purchased the building using a reserve store of magic items that they were collecting for some years. The Cool Beans serves all the best Skillhaven fair, with the additions of several bean and tortilla dishes, Cont. and a spiced cocoa from Mayan. With some of the best Ale in Skillhaven and a restaurant menu to match The Cool Beans should definitely make the list of Calarinde's top ten places to visit while in the city. Catering to Adventurers, Merchants, High-class citizens and anyone else seeking a taste of the exotic right here in Calarinde The Cool Beans is open seven days a week and is located right off the small market square.
