On Fey
It's said the fey are keepers of magic. Our people believe the fey are chosen ones to be protected and guarded, kept safe. They are kindred to us, there are some fey who call Elves fey as well. We believe they are sent by the Valar, though they do not seem to know of the Valar at all.
They come and go between worlds as they please. They have not always been here, and tell stories of times long ago, ancient ways. Unaware of passage of time, they forget quickly, it seems as though to them ages pass in the blink of an eye and when they see you again is is as an ancient memory. There are stories they came from the west with the elves. There are stories fey were some of the first beings to exist.
When fey die so does the world.
Like seeds on the wind they move, drifting here and there. What do you dream oh seeds on the wind? Do you know what you bring and what you take other places? Or are you as bees not knowing what it is you do, yet still doing what is necessary? If you are, what honey do you make? Do you horde pollen away make it into sweet dreams, and why make the dreams at all? Is it instinct? Like bees they can sting and sometimes die doing so. Like bees there is a great pattern. Without them what would happen to the life and nature around us? The trick is in knowing what it is fey gather, where they take it to, why, and who wants to stop it. We have always protected them. Their woods are sacred. They are like children, unaware of their purpose but set on a course only they seem to know. Their innocence is not to be marred by cruelties of world.
Gnomes are cousins of fey, not true fey. You may see the effects in their interests in our world. They are interested in items we craft in an overwhelming way, maybe a side effect of their increased connection.
At least one dragon I have known has died to save the fey.
