This is part of a research project me and my friend's characters have been doing. The following paper is going to be posted in inns in Geb, so if you have a character there they could have seen this.

Scholars of the Last Star Report
Introduction
In this report, we will be explaining the information we have found in the texts on the topics of where the army came from, who are their leaders and what are their motives. After this, we will be theorizing on how this information could help us defeat the armies and win back our world.
From the texts we have examined from the Mithil library, it seems as if the Army of the Starless Night appeared due to a physical shift in the polar north. Much of their early history has yet to be investigated, but it seems that the Army of the Starless Night quickly overwhelmed Dagdeoth, who had previously controlled the polar north. the Army of the Starless Night came from another dimension and that they have conquered other worlds. We are not the first world they have tried to conquer. The many soldiers from the army of the starless night we have interrogated say that their dimension is uninhabitable in some way and believe their only chance of survival is to join and fight for the Army of the Starless Night. But why do the leaders wish to fight? There are three leaders to the Army of the Starless Night, Amroloth, Sarirowden, and Maiyoc, each of which leads a different set of factions with diverse motives.
Amroloth and the Order of the Black Crescent
The Black Crescent and Amroloth, their leader, believe that Amroloth is destined to take over both our world and other worlds which lay beyond us in other dimensions. The Order of the Black Crescent believes Amroloth has some sort of special power, and that he will conquer everyone and everything. This group t is obsessed with controlling other groups. to the Order of the Black Crescent, order is everything. They have a strict and heavily enforced feudal system. In combat, they use a pyramid structure for their troops. in black crescent fighting groups there is almost always a leader, in most cases this is a high ranking stone giant with a group of elemental bodyguards. generally there are about three creatures with regeneration and about fore elite warriors or semi materials. at the very bottom of the pyramid there are things like humans, bone warriors, goblins and zombies.
The Order of the Black Crescent is one of the biggest and most powerful of the Army of the Starless Night, and could be responsible for what is perhaps the Army of the Starless Night’s biggest advantage, the alignment effect.
The alignment effect causes conquered nations to change their alignment, their beliefs, to change and to support the Army of the Starless Night. This means that conquered cities don’t rebel, even enemies such as the Mists of Shabarax have been turned against us. The alignment effect is the reason we don’t list many Starless Night Factions, such as the Order of the Empty Cowell, below. These groups are of less relevance to the topic of this paper because they are only converted factions and, although dangerous, do not relate to the origins and motives of the Starless Night. We at the Last Star have done research on the alignment effect and have came up with a theory on the alignment effect’s current effect: It doesn’t exist! The alignment effect shows no signs of being magical, cities under the control of the Starless Night no longer believe the Starless Night are the bad guys not because they are being forced to, but because they feel like they always have. When you spend a lot of time with very nice people you become kinder, the same goes in the other direction. This does mean, sadly, that a magical method to revert our fallen allies appears to be out of the question, as there is no magic influencing their beliefs, they have simply changed as a person. The only way we can help our friends now is through kindness.
Maiyoc and the Order of the Bloodied Seeker
The Order of the Bloodied Seeker, led by Maiyoc, are much more of a scholarly who group wish to find the inner truth within you, but they have all gone rather mad and try to literally show you the truth within you by cutting you open, thus the name bloodied seekers. They are very adamant that this is the “only way to find the truth” and that without it you will never know. It is almost as if it is some sort of twisted religion for them, (although this theory has not been strictly backed up by the text). To the Order of the Bloodied Seeker, loyalty is vital and their main commitment.
The Order of the Bloodied Seeker is rarely seen on the battlefield. More often they are infiltrating cities and groups, kidnapping important figures and other behind the scene work. They are generally in groups of 3-6 and have Assassin and Thief skills. They are on average Rank 2.
Sarirowden and the Order of the Towering Thousand
For Sarirowden’s troops, their goal seems rather straightforward, they want to win, and it doesn’t seem like they care what they are fighting for, as long as they win. It seems like it is some sort of pride thing for them, you kill, you win, you succeed. But it seems like this strange pride only applies to physical fighting, like in wars and duels and such, not with other things such as successfully building a house, or learning a new language.
Sarirowden is associated with the Order of the Towering Thousand. They are a rare group to encounter, and only seem to be brought to a battlefield if they are needed. Half of your typical Towering Thousand fighting group is various undead, while the other half is made up of various living species. They always have at least three rank 3+ vengeance-bound humans and a type of Wisp Guard to animate their undead.
Conclusion
How could we use this to our advantage? We could just brute force it, what we have been doing, fighting physically, but now that we know a little more. We can find other tactics to fight them off, for example, Sarirowden’s troops just want to win, right? Could we could convince them that if they joined us they would win? They also want somewhere to live, right? We could tell them that if they help us fight Dagdeoth and the army of the starless night they could have some of the territories they conquered back, this could turn an enemy into an ally. But how could we convince them they need to join us to win? We are losing right now. Maybe we could investigate how they got to our plane in the first place, maybe they are getting more troops from there world, if we could find a way to close the portal then they would have their supply of reinforcements blocked off.
Regardless of our strategy, more research still needs to be done. if you have any queries you would like us to investigate or you have more information please contact our organization (out of game: post it down below). This has been the Last Star, shine bright!
