Scapes
Composed from the notes of Aria Sneath, (Tyson) & Sena Easayr
Think of scapes of of overlays on our own world. As far as we know, there are five of them: the landscape, spiritscape, mindscape, dreamscape and manascape. Some have theorized that lower scapes exist as well, although it is not known if they do. These scapes are considered to be “layered” on top of each other. The higher up scapes go, the more intangible they become. The lowest scape, the one we live on is called the landscape or earth scape and is associated with the color green.
The next scape up from the landscape is the spiritscape, more commonly called the ethereal realm. It is inhabited by spirits and shadow (predatory spirits) and all other types of spirits. These spirits are different in ways that don’t make sense to us as they have different ways of measuring the difference between spirits, based for the most part off luminosity and brightness. Each spirit is assumed to serve a different purpose, although what these purposes are is not known. This scape is associated with the color black.
After the spiritscape comes the mindscape, where mental processes exist. Charms and mental effects are also believed to function to some extent, on this plane. To those who have been there, it seemed to function similarly to a labyrinth, with doors that spoke, asking for answers to riddles or passwords. Once again, the stats for creatures on this plane are not well documented, but the type of puzzle, or the intelligence of the creature is what seems to be the most important. Things on the mindscape have been known to have invisibility, though that is not connected to invisibility on the landscape. The mindscape is most associated with the color blue.
The dreamscape is the fourth scape. It is the scape of emotion and is characterized by its fluidity. It looks similar to what oracles look like, and the creatures there are categorized by type of emotion and ability to interact with oracles. The dreamscape is also most associated with the color blue.
The highest scape to our knowledge is the manascape. The manascape is a scape of pure energy. Those who have tried to visit the manascape have immediately turned into pure energy. The manascape relates closely to elemental realms, but is not an elemental plane itself. Creatures called Zaps and Prowlers exist on this plane who“short-circuit” and eat magic respectively. Creatures or events on the manascape can cause spell fumbles.
Those of us on the landscape are considered to have aspects on each of the higher scapes, which makes it easier to travel upwards than downwards. Ethereal travel is an example of scapeshifting, for example. However, there are creatures that can move downwards from higher scapes, although they are extremely powerful to be able to do so. Portals between scapes can exist and are often created by spell fumbles. It also might be possible to invite or summon things onto your scape, although doing that is not well known or documented. It is possible for people and animals to subconsciously react to things that happen on other scapes, but it takes major events to cause this. Leylines are also known to have a stronger presence on higher scapes, to the point where they become visible. They are known to be extremely strong and visible on the manascape.
In short, scapes are layers on this plane where different aspects and creatures exist. How important this information is to what is happening in Mandel remains to be seen.
